2 Cased Victoria hallmarked Sterling Silver Shell Salt Cellars & Spoons 1891
Cased Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Cellars. This beautiful set comprises 2 salt cellars and spoons which are made from sterling silver. The cellars are in the form of scallop shells with richly gilded cups and they stand on 3 ball feet. The spoons have scalloped bowls, twist stems and ball terminals, and the cups of the bowls are also richly gilded. The cellars and spoons are all hallmarked for Birmingham 1891 with the makers mark W. L although these are upside down and not very clear. The silverware is presented in its original black-coloured case with push-button clasp, light blue silk lining to the lid and dark blue velvet to the base. The silver is in beautiful condition and looks as if it has rarely been used. There is no damage to the cellars or spoons and the gilding is wonderfully rich with no signs of wear. The case is in good order with no noticeable flaws to the exteriors and the hinges are sound. The clasp only just holds but the lid can be opened by just pulling it gently. The silk to the lid and the velvet have no wear but the silk to the recesses in the base have some light, brownish staining. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN PAGE TO SEE MORE IMAGES Approximate Measurements.
