PAIR NEOCLASSICAL SALTS WITH COBALT GLASS LINERS – William James Holmes, Birmingham 1898. A charming pair of late Victorian oval solid silver salt cellars with cobalt blue glass liners, and two pretty scallop shaped spoons. The salts are in a Neoclassical style with columns joined by flower garlands and bows. The base rim is reeded and there are four paw shaped feet. The salts were made by William James Holmes, of Birmingham and dated 1898. The spoons are a year earlier and are by William Devenport, Birmingham. Condition: Very good, no chips to the liners. One spoon has a salt mark. Width: 6 cm (2 in). Depth: 4 cm (1 in). Height: 4.3 cm (1 ¾ in). Total weight: 165 g. Silver weight: 54 g.
