Fabulous antique Belle Epoque era French sterling silver salt cellars set. Comprising of four salt cellars and four salt spoons housed in the original fitted presentation box. Each salt cellar is ornately decorated in Empire / Neoclassical styling with laurel wreaths, shells and gorgeous handles in the form of elegant swans. Each with stunning gold vermeil finished interiors, the quality of the gold layer on French silver was a minimum of 18K. Each retains the original clear glass liner with serpentine rims and wheel cut starbursts to the bases. The set includes the four matching salt spoons, beautifully styled with neoclassical ornamentation and scalloped shells to the backs of the bowls. The bowls are enhanced in gold vermeil finish as well. The salt spoons and salt cellars are hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark. In use from 1838, the mark depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of. 950/1000 silver 95% silver and a higher grade of finesse than the standard. Each piece bears a makers mark for silversmith Emile Bergeron, active circa 1902 at 15 passage du Buisson-Saint-Louis, Paris. The set is in very good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. The salt cellars measure 3 1/8 length x 1 ½ width. The spoons are 2 ¾ length. Total silver weight is 74.7 grams.
