Exquisite pair of antique 19th century French sterling silver mustard pots. Richly decorated in ornate Louis XVI/Rococo styling with opulent fruit laden garland swags, stylized acanthus ornamentation and heavy scrolling. Centered by oval medallions, bearing an engraved monogram. The hinged lids patterned with gadrooned motif and vignettes featuring leaves and berries tied with ribbon bows, topped by finials. The back with elegant handles. Standing on arabesque feet and attached to footed trays with lovely serpentine borders. Opening to reveal original blown clear glass liners. Simply gorgeous additions for the holiday table and great to use as salt cellars if you prefer. The mustard pots are thoroughly hallmarked with the French export Mercury mark for. This mark was struck on French made silver items intended for export and was in use from 1840 to 1879. Bearing makers mark for silversmith Jean Baptiste HARLEUX, active from 1834 to 1891 at 15 rue du Grand Hurleur in Paris. Together with spoons that are later, bearing hallmarks of the French Minerve 1st standard mark denoting a silver content of. 950/1000 and bearing makers marks for silversmiths Charles Hack & Achille Hourdequin, active from 1884 to 1902 at 42 rue de Turbigo, Paris.
