A gorgeous pair of Georgian sterling silver salt cellars, one with the original glass liner, made by the silversmiths Fenton Creswick & Co (Matthew Fenton, Richard Creswick and William Watson) in Sheffield, U. Table pieces from the early years of the Sheffield Assay Office are rarely found and these are in good antique condition for items of this age. They are marked with the maker’s stamp MF/RC, a lion passant, and the crowned gothic letter E for 1782/83. There is a beaded border to the rim and the sides, which have perforated foliate borders to the top and bottom of the design, and are decorated with floral swags hanging between four six-pointed stars.
