Antique Abolitionist American Coin Silver Salt Cellar Rev. Rendered in fine American Coin silver, this ornate repousse cellar is engraved as follows: Rev H. Ludlow, Pokeepsie Sept, 10th, 1858. Throughout his career, Ludlow served at Spring Street Presbyterian Church in New York City and then the First Congregational Church of Oswego. While in NYC, his home and church were attacked by an anti-abolitionist mob as they thought he had officiated a mixed race marriage. True or not, Ludlow was an abolitionist and was active in the Underground Railroad. Dimensions: It is 2 5/8 tall. The top and base diameter is 2 1/2″ and 2″ respectively. Weight: 1.49 troy ounces. Condition: In overall very good condition consistent with age and use. There are some surface scratches and scattered dings. Please examine the images for the best indication of condition.
