Rare Collector Set of 2 Matching Hoof Footed Repousse Gorham Salt Cellars 1885 #2150 & 1900 #A2150. Marked Sterling and the maker’s mark for Gorham with Lion Dextral (Lion walking to the right). Manufactured in 1885 see Tompkins the Handbook of Open Salt Dishes pages 145 & photo on page 82. Measures 2.6″D x 1.6″H. Finely script monogramed on the center of the bottom… Marked Sterling and the maker’s mark for Gorham. Also marked with the Gorham date code for 1901. Manufactured in 1900 see Tompkins the Handbook of Open Salt Dishes pages 148 &. Photo on page 98. Finely script monogramed near one of the feet at the bottom… Apparently Gorham had reissued the same salt cellar 15 years later, but the unusual part is that the repousse tooling is completely different! Each master salt has two additional flowers for a total of three different on each… Six different flowers among the two of them. There is a lot of detailed workmanship that went into making each of these fine master salts. And to have these two brought together as a set. Please see all photos.
