Master Salt Cellar Sterling Silver Samuel Hennell London 1811 Basket Handle. One sterling silver salt cellar with a basket handle by Samuel Hennell, London 1811. The salt cellar is on a traditional footed base with the top dimensions being 3 3/8″ long by 2 ¾” wide and 1 ¼ high. The salt cellar weighs 4.65 troy ounces. The footed base is 1 7/8″ long and 1 3/8″ wide. The interior of the salt cellar appears to have a light gold wash finish. The salt cellar is hallmarked on one end under the rim (king’s head, lion passant, date letter “Q” for 1811, and Samuel Hennell’s mark), and the basket handle is also hallmarked with the lion passant for the sterling standard. The top gadroon and shell or leaf border shows wear. Please view the photographs carefully to see the wear on the corners of the gadroon and leaf/shell rim. One is tipped up, another tipped down, the remaining two are noticeably worn back. There is an odd embellishment of what appears to be a square nut and rod soldered under the base.
