Gorgeous antique late 19th century French Belle Epoque era sterling silver & cobalt glass salt cellar set with opulent Rococo styling, crafted by Parisian silversmith Victor Boivin, active from 1897. The set is complete, comprising of four open salt cellars with original cobalt glass inserts and matching salt spoons, housed within the original cream silk and red velvet lined presentation box. The pierced repousse cellars are decorated in a beautifully ornate Louis XV or Rococo style that includes rocailles, flying doves, acanthus accents and scrolling foliage. Each spoon has a shell shaped gilded bowl. In very good condition, no dents, damage, removals or repairs to note. No chips or cracks to the glass liners. French Boar’s head mark on each cellar, which guaranteed the quality of French solid silver. 800 or higher, used in Paris since 1838 for small object. The spoons bear the Minerva 1st standard mark (silver fineness 950/1000). Maker’s marks are for Victor Boivin, active from 1897 at 5 rue de Montmorency in Paris. Salt cellars measure 2 5/8″ or 6,6 cm length x 1 7/8″ or 4,8 cm deep x 1 1/2 or 3,8 cm tall. Spoons measure 3 or 7,5 cm length. Total weight of the silver (without the inserts): 141gr. Total weight with box: 920gr. The presentation box overall is in good condition, some age-related minor scratches and wears to the exterior, but open/close system works good. Label inside the lid reads the the name of the retailer: Berger-Montangerand, Chalon-sur-Saône. Measures 8 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ and is 1 3/4 tall. (22,6 x 19,3 x 8,2cm).
