The total weight of these 2 antique, Tiffany Young & Ellis, Coin Silver with Gilt interior bowl salt cellars is 4.2 oz. They measure 1-1/4 inch in height and 2-3/4 inches in diameter. They are marked with the maker, Tiffany, Young & Ellis, J. M (John C Moore, 1852). These salts are pre-civil war coin silver. The silversmith, designer, is John C Moore and they were retailed by Tiffany. The bowls retain their original fire gilding and are in very fine antique condition. This is the earliest coin salts by Tiffany that I have ever seen. A fantastic addition for Tiffany collector, coin silver collector , John Moore collector. Tiffany Young and Ellis were only in partnership from 1841 to 1852, so these are easy to date. M stands for John C. The silver that Tiffany, Young and Ellis retailed beginning around 1845 was of coin quality. In 1851 John C. Moore & Son entered into a special business relationship with Tiffany. In 1868 the silverware factory of Moore became part of organization with Edward C. Moore becoming one of the directors. PLEASE VISIT OUR STORE FOR POLICIES, AND OUR OTHER ITEMS.
