Lovely antique to vintage early 20th century French sterling silver & vermeil set of open salt cellars with their original glass inserts and original salt spoons, crafted by Parisian silversmith Pierre Bezon, active from c. The set consists of 4 salt cellars and 4 matching salt spoons, embellished in finely detailed Neoclassical decor. The interior of the cellars have gorgeous vermeil finish gilded, gold-washed over sterling. In very good condition, just a bit of tarnish, hardly a sign of vermeil wear. No chips, cracks or damage to the glass inserts. The salts and spoons are each marked with the post 1838 French Minerve or Minerva 1st standard, depicting the head of the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of. 950/1000, which is almost 95% pure silver and higher than 925 sterling. Silversmith marks are for Pierre Bezon, active from 1913 at 13 rue Portefoin, then 72 rue des Archives in Paris. The box is in very fine shape with with only some minor surface marks. Good working hinges & clasp. Measures 7 6/8″ x 7 7/8″ x 2 1/4. (19,7×19,7x 5,7cm). Salt cellars measure 2″ or 5cm length x 1 1/4″ or 3cm deep x 1 1/4 or 3cm tall. Spoons measure 2 3/8 or 6cm length.
