Pr John Wendt NY Sterling Salt Cellars c. A fine and beautiful pair of Victorian sterling silver salts circa 1865. Each square in form and decorated in a Renaissance Revival Style with winged cherubs surrounded by scrolling vines and flowers. Between the cherubs are two types of facial masks, the first a female with projecting hair and the second, a male with a head draped with an animal skin hood. The salts rest on ionic capitals which form the feet. They are stamped ” English Sterling”. The maker is John Wendt of New York. The number 469 also appears.
