The weight of this antique, Gorham, Sterling Silver, master salt cellar in a bucket motif is 2.6 oz. It measures 4 inches in height and 2-1/8 inches in diameter. It is marked with the makers mark for Gorham, sterling, 1690, M (for the year 1880). This piece is bright-cut with flowers, bird and butterfly decoration. This is a Japanese water bucket motif. It is realistically embellished with rope on top and bottom circumference to emphasize the abstract wooden stay construction. The handle is engraved with initials (see photo). This is a very fine example of the Japanese influence on the American Aesthetic Movement in the late 19th century. This piece is in very fine antique condition.
