Extremely Rare Ludwig Politzer C1890 Viennese Enameled Silver Open Salt Cellar
A Ludwig Politzer Antique Circa 1890 Viennese Enameled Silver Open Salt Cellar Dip. This lovely little extremely rare, antique Viennese enameled sterling silver open salt was hand painted by the famous artist Ludwig Politzer, circa 1890. It is round in shape with the exterior decorated with two alternating panels depicting highly detailed scenes of women and cherubs/cupids, and two with a swirl and beaded design in shades of cranberry, gold and cream. The interior of the salt is also enameled with an amazing landscape scene of mountains and trees. It has a beaded rim and base and both are hallmarked LP for Ludwig Politzer and an A signifying Vienna, Austria (See last two pictures for marks). Similar Viennese enamel open salts can be seen in The Open Salt Compendium Plates 421. 422 & 427-429 by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson. The salt measures only 1 high, 1-1/4 in diameter at the rim, 1-1/2 in diameter at its widest point and 1 in diameter at the base. The salt is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs to the pristine enamel work and no bends or dents to the silver. A lovely museum quality piece!
