Pair Antique S Kirk & Son Sterling Silver Repousse Scenic Landscape Salt Cellars. My thanks to you even if you are “Just Looking”. My wishes to you for the same. While a few photos were shot with light, others weren’t so you can see the detail of this piece. If you like what you see in the photos, you are going to LOVE what you see in person! Dating to the early 1900s, may I offer this pair of absolutely stunning sterling silver paw footed salt cellars by S. Kirk & Son in the EXTREMELY RARE Scenic design – lake view with sailboat, farmhouse with fence, bridge and lots and lots of florals. Incredible pieces with no dents or dings anywhere. Strike is crisp and absolutely perfect! Mellow patina to the silver. While I found the cellars without glass inserts, I did manage to come up with a pair of blue ones that fit though they do move around a smidge when in the pots; a little putty would definitely keep them stationary. Oh, and there is a bit of nibbling in the glass along the edge where a salt spoon would sit. The bottom of the bases on each piece bear the following hallmarks which include S. Kirk & Son Inc, Sterling, 925/1000, 3. Both pieces stand about 1-5/8″ high; width at the top is 2-3/16″. Combined weight of the pieces is 4.74 ounces or 147.41 grams. Again, perfect, perfect, perfect! NOTE RE S KIRK & SON. KIRK & SON: In 1815 Samuel Kirk opened a silver shop in Baltimore, Maryland – a company which would eventually become the Kirk Stieff Corporation, the oldest surviving, highly prestigious silver company in the U. In 1846 and then again in 1861, Kirk changed the name of his company to Samuel Kirk & Sons with the addition of his sons Charles and Clarence joining the firm. Although these younger sons left the company after the Civil War, Henry and his son, Henry, Jr. Continued the family business even after Samuels death in 1872. Kirk silver, or Baltimore silver is instantly recognizable by its hand-crafted repousse technique hammering the reverse side of silver to produce an intricate design in low relief — which Samuel Kirk introduced to America in 1828. Customers especially desired his repousee tea services, bowls, and flatware with elaborate floral patterns and architectural images. Kirks reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design spread nationwide and even today his silver is coveted. Again, wait to pay – I will send a revised invoice asap!
