A beautiful late 19th century set of French sterling silver salt cellars and spoons by Parisian silversmith Louis Coignet, Paris ca. Comprising of four open salt cellars with original glass liners and four matching small salt spoons. Each cellar is embellished with ornate lattice, rocaille, floral and foliate scroll decoration in Louis XV / Rococo style and stands on four acanthus feet. They have gilt vermeil interiors. Each spoon has a shell shaped gilt bowl and pierced design on handle. The set is complete and housed protectively within the original presentation case. In good antique condition with age tarnish, surface scratches, marks and the odd tiny dent. The glass liners are also in good condition. They may have the normal manufacturing flaws (like bubbles) typical of old glassware. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The cellars and spoons are hallmarked with the French Minerva 1st standard mark for. The cellars are 2 1/4 inches (5,7 cm) long, 1 9/16 inches (4 cm) wide and 1 5/8 inches (4,1 cm) tall. The spoons measure 2 9/16 inches (6,5 cm) in lenght. Silver weight is 72,3 grams. Total weight with box is 721 grams. The box shows some wear to the outside and the interior lining has a little discoloration. There is a tight split across the bottom but it has no impact on the integrity and sturdiness of the box. The hinges work well and the lid closes snugly. Measures 8 9/16 inches (21,7 cm) wide, 8 9/16 inches (21,7 cm) back to front and is 3 3/8 inches (8,6 cm) tall.
