Antique late 19th / early 20th century French sterling silver salt set, comprising of four open salt cellars with cobalt blue glass liners and four salt spoons. The cellars stand on four hooved feet. Each with a reticulated sterling silver framework featuring ornate Neoclassical style acanthus, laurel wreath, scrolling rinceau motifs. Both sides feature oval monogram cartouches in the form of a shield, accented with flowers and ribbons. The spoon bowls have gold vermeil finish. The set comes complete with its original fitted presentation/storage box with silk and velvet lining. Overall in very good condition with age tarnish and light surface scratches. No dents, splits or repairs to note. All pieces are stamped with the French Minerva 1st standard hallmark for. Maker’s mark are for the company of Tallois & Mayence (Paul Tallois and Louis Mayence) whose workshop was located at 19 boulevard de Strasbourg, Paris. The cellars are 2 9/16 inches (6,5 cm) wide, 1 5/8 inches (4,2 cm) deep and 1 11/16 inches (4,3 cm) tall. The spoons are 3 9/16 inches (9 cm) long. Combined silver weight is 168 grams. Total weight with box is 1049 grams. The box is in decent shape with no structural damage, however, there is some surface wear, rubbing to the outside. The interior lining shows minor signs of age. The box opens easily and closes snugly with good working hinges. It measures 8 3/8 inches (21,3 cm) wide, 9 7/8 inches (25 cm) back to front and is 2 13/16 inches (7,2 cm) tall.
