Antique Georgian 1780 Pair of Sterling Silver Salt Cellars Bowls Cauldron Gilt
Welcome to William Sharpe Antiques. Here today for your consideration we have this pair of beautiful Georgian sterling silver salt cellars, made in London in the second half of the 18th century (possibly Samuel Meriton or Elizabeth Muns). This wonderful set features multi-stepped footed bases and a typical cauldron body, having nicely cut detail throughout and remnant gilding to the interiors. Condition is fair used, with the set having some salt corrosion throughout and a few depressions evident. One facing on each has a cartouche with remnants of a family crest, with the hallmarks to the base of each in poor condition (barely legible). A charming and original set of salt cellars for the collection. Each cellar stands 3.5cm tall and has an overall diameter of 6cm. Unpacked, the set weighs in at 87gms. Don’t miss out! Sterling silver offered at William Sharpe Antiques is original and authentic, showing signs of use over its life. Unless expressly stated above, all pieces are free from major structural damage. However, normal signs of use including shallow depressions, fine scratches, and minor pattern and hallmark wear should be expected. All pieces (unless expressly stated above) have undertaken a very light polish with respect to the original patina, and a decision for further polishing will be left to the new custodian. Please note that items listed (unless otherwise advertised) are antiques and are not brand new.
