A Couple of Extraordinary French Art Nouveau Small Solid Silver Mermaid Sculptures Waves Shells Miniature Bowls! Absolute water theme, even the footings are made to resemble splashing water bellow the floating oyster shells which the mermaids are riding! Extremely rare hand crafted by a master art silver smith, perhaps the only two created, since they have casting faults as well as shaving faults. Approximately 5.5 cm (2 3/16 inches) in height, and furthest distances from belly to end of shell approximately 6.6 cm (2 10/16 inches). The Mermaids weigh approximately 101 grams and 98.9 grams. Casting faults as well as shaving faults. In the left mermaid in the 1st image as well as the last image a cast fault where the silver over flows on the back of the hair of one of the mermaids which adds to the charm since it gives the illusion of wet hair! Another fault is a couple of shaving faults, metal sculptures after finishing a cast would shave off the excess silver, where-by here he shaved off a bit too much between the thigh areas. Some of the refined details have been eroded due to age and tarnish removal. I strongly recommend that if you have silver with beautiful details to not remove the tarnish since overtime the details will erode. These extremely rare and beautiful mermaids would make extraordinary jewelry display pieces, ideal for displaying pearls! Would also be cool for serving caviar for two! Regardless, if you love mermaids, then historical mermaids such as these are extremely hard to catch, eat your heart out star-bucks!
