This is a superb pair of Victorian sterling silver salt cellars. They have beautiful shell bowls and each salt sits on three dolphin feet. Both salts have the same crest. This is of a dragons head and is a crest which is used by a number of families. Hallmarks show HH for silversmith Henry Holland, Queens Head, London assay mark, Lion passant for sterling and date letter for 1876. One has letter A (1875-6) and one B(1876-7), but they would have been hallmarked within days of each other as date letters changed mid-year. Both salt cellars are in excellent condition. The shells bowls measure approx. 7cm x 7cm and are 3 cm in height. Combined weight is approx. Condition is excellent with clear definition to shell bowls and dolphins features. A lovely pair of Victorian novelty salts, now 142 years old. The item “VICTORIAN PAIR 1876 Solid Silver DOLPHIN SHELL OPEN SALT CELLARS DRAGON CREST” is in sale since Sunday, May 13, 2018.
