By immediately checking the silver weight of these salts, you will see that they are much heavier than similar cauldron salts of this period. David Hennell was the founder of the Hennell dynasty ot London Silversmiths. His first mark was 1736, making these salts early. The firm continued producing high quality silverware well into the seconf half of the 19th century. These outstanding salt cellars are large and sturdy. The rims are decorated with applied gadrooned borders which are scalloped. The 3 applied feet are generously cast and well splayed; with shell knees and spread hooves. This gives the salt cellars a very important appearance. There are no crests or initials, and no evidence whatsoever that any such may have been polished out. Thus it is unusual for silver of this quality of this period to have no engraving. Liner damage and breakage has always been an issue. However, they do match. The salt spoons in the images are not contemporary with the George II salt cellars, but they are included in the price. The spoons are London1861, George Adams. Very heavy weight with gilded bowls.
