Pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Cellars. This beautiful set is made from sterling silver and comprises two salt cellars and spoons. The cellars are beautifully decorated with a band of chased flora and foliage around the upper sections, fluting around the bottoms and both have vacant cartouches to the front. They have two decorative, scrolled hands with floral embellishments and the interiors are gilded to prevent corrosion. The condiment spoons are made in the Kings Hourglass pattern. Both cellars are hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 but the makers mark seems to have been double struck. I think it may be that of Barnett Henry Abrahams. The spoons have different marks for Birmingham 1902 with the makers mark of William Devenport. If is often the case with these sets that the spoons were outsourced from another maker so I think these are probably original. The set is presented in its original black-coloured case with drop-down clasp and there is green silk lining to the lid and velvet to the base. Overall, the cellars are in good condition with crisp decoration, no wear to the gilding and they stand nice and level without a wobble. However, to one cellar, there is a tiny dint to the cartouche and to the other there are slight kinks to the rim on both sides. The spoons are in good order with no wear or kinks. Please see the photos below which show all aspects. The case is in good condition with working clasp although the exterior is quite tired and theres a small piece of missing covering to the back left-hand corner. The linings have no wear, staining or fading but are slightly tired with age. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN PAGE TO SEE MORE IMAGES Approximate Measurements.
