English Sterling Silver Salt Pepper Shakers 1950s Suckling Salt Cellar Cobalt Liner. This listing is for two pairs of sterling silver shakers, made in England circa mid-1950s. SIZE: Shakers approximately 3 1/8 tall. The total weight of the four shakers (together) is about 161.20 grams. The silver portion of the open salt weighs 49.3 grams. MARKS: English hallmarks: Anchor city mark for Birmingham, purity mark for sterling silver and date codes, three for 1955, and one for 1954. Maker’s mark SL for cartouche for William Suckling Ltd. Date code on the salt cellar is for 1950. Lids are nice and tight. At first glance, they seem perfect, but on close exam, there are some tiny issues. One shaker has a linear dent less than 1/4 long near the foot. On some of the others, I found some pinhead size dents. None of the tiny issues impacts the overall look of the shakers. The open salt cellar has a little typical pitting from salt on the. Of the silver and the shakers also have a little pitting from salt on the inside lip of the top rims.
