This is a vintage English sterling silver two piece salt cellars and spoons set in its original fitted box, made in 1911 by John Rose of Birmingham. This fine early 20th century salt cellar set seems to have had only minor use. The salt cellars have beautiful ribbed sides and gold gilt interiors, and the spoons are plain with gold gilt bowls. There is no monogram or engraving. This is a straight set with all four pieces having the same hallmarks: the anchor of Birmingham, the lion passant, the date letter m for 1911 and JR in two squares, the mark of silversmith John Rose. It coms to you in its original lined fitted box covered with faux? Leather with a gold stripe. The velvet and silk linings are deep blue and white respectively. You can scroll down to see more photos. These classic salts measure 2 3/8″ by 1 3/4″ and stand 1 3/8 at the tallest. The spoons are 2 1/2 long. All four pieces weigh 2.2 oz (64 gr) together on my little scale. The silver is in very good condition, with normal signs of use and a little tarnish, with a few small salt spots inside out of sight. There are no dents, dings or bends. The vintage box is 7″ wide by 3 1/2″ deep and stands 2 high, and is in overall good condition, with wear at the corners and edges. The velvet and silk linings are clean and nice – just a small dark spot on the white silk under each of the salts. The hinges and latch are sound and in very good condition with no problems to report. For silver jewelry, antique sterling and interesting antique and vintage items, please see my other auctions.
