LUDWIG POLITZER AUSTRIAN SILVER ENAMEL 100% HAND PAINTED OPEN SALT CELLAR 1 OF 2. This is a beautiful piece little round, pedestal footed open salt cellar made of silver and decorated with hand-painted enamel inside and out. So tiny and yet such a beautiful work of art. This particular piece has been in my personal collection since the year 2000. The salt cellar in my photos is the actual piece you will receive. Please be sure to read the “AGE AND CONDITION” and. The enamel decoration consists of four separate hand-painted panels that surround the exterior of the bowl. Two of the panels are hand painted in colors of pink, blue and maroon with hand painted gold beading and scrolling. The other two panels are hand painted scenes. One scene is of a woman in a pastoral landscape with two sheep. The other scene is of a kneeling man and a reclining woman. Inside the bowl is a third, and very intricate, hand-painted landscape scene with a tree in the foreground and what appears to be a castle in the distance. This is a very skillfully made and a very nice quality little salt cellar. Both the underside of the piece and the exterior of the top rim are each clearly hallmarked with two marks each. First is the h. Allmark of the maker’s mark, which are the letters “L P” for Ludwig Politzer. Second is the hallmark of the letter “A” for the city of Vienna, Austria. Century and is one of the most famous and important silversmiths working there during that period. Similarly shaped and decorated salts by this same maker are pictured in. The book The Open Salt Compendium by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson in Plate #’s 427,428 & 429. There are also more similarly shaped and decorated salts pictured on page 149 in this same book. I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. Our store has many unique and interesting items in several different categories from 35 years of our dealing and collecting antiques and collectables. It is in excellent to near mint original condition. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. Other than some very light signs of use and some tarnish to the silver, all of which would be expected on an older piece like this, I see only some minor loss to the gold trim in the sides. I see no dents, dings or breaks to the silver. I see no visible chips, loss or repairs to the enamel. Please keep in mind these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. About 1.75″ (4.4 cm) in diameter at the widest point and sits about 1.25″ (3.2 cm) off the table. About 1.25 ounces (36 grams).
