For sale is a very rare early Gorham master salt cellar with four figural mouse feet. The piece is 4 1/8 inches long, 2 3/8 inches wide and about 1 ¾ inches tall at the handle tip. It weighs 71 grams. It has a shaped border, ribbon-from squared ring handles, and stands on four hollow cast mouse form feet. These mice appear on some early Gorham crumbers and a few other pieces, but I have never seen them used as feet. It is monogrammed with a period JAC cypher on one side. Condition on the salt is good. The handles are a bit uneven, with either one pushed up or the other down. There are some minor dings and black spots as well. The bottoms of the mice a bit rough; They may have had felt pads originally. They do appear to be original to the piece, and I have seen another example of this salt. A rare piece of Victorian figural silver. The item “RARE Early GORHAM Sterling Master SALT CELLAR with MOUSE FORM FEET-Dated 1869″ is in sale since Sunday, May 14, 2017.
