Great Set 4 1868 Victorian English Sterling Silver Lion Paw Foot Salt Cellars
Great Set 4 1868 Victorian English Sterling Silver Lion Paw Foot Salt Cellars. Presented is a wonderful set of 4 Victorian English sterling silver open salt cellars, dated 1868. The salts are made in a lovely classical form, each standing on three paw form feet, with shell form flourishes where the legs join the body and elegant gadroon decoration around the rims. The sides of the salts are beautifully hand engraved with a continuous floral garland, nicely detailed and well done. Each piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the city of London, the date letter n for 1868, the duty stamp of Queen Victoria’s head, and the maker’s mark for Joseph Angell II. This set is in great overall condition. Some minor wear to the engraved decoration. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each salt measures about 2 3/4 inches wide (inclusive of the feet) or about 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and stands about 1 1/4 inches tall. The total weight for the set is 272 grams or 9.6 regular ounces. Powered by SixBit’s eCommerce Solution.
