Antique sterling silver Hand-Made Stand withSalt & Pepper Shakers & Salt Cellar
A very beautiful silver stand for a salt and pepper shaker set and a salt cellar. I believe the stand is sterling silver and is hand-made. It is a leaf pattern forming the base, with swirling sterling forming the handle, compartments and several leaf and flower decorations. The salt and pepper shakers are a beautiful blue opalescent glass with a polka dot pattern. This pattern is sometimes referred to as inverted thumbprint. They have pewter collars and lids. The collars are firmly attached and the lids are removable. They are in great shape. Each is 2 1/2 tall. These shakers have no markings, however were likely made by the Hobbs, Bruckner and Company. The salt cellar is a clear glass formed into a slightly off-center oblong shape. The outer walls are ribbed. The stand is a beautiful silver color with some light tarnishing. I believe it is sterling silver, although there are no markings. It passed all of the regular home tests for silver. It is a very unique pattern, which looks very artistic, and definitely handmade. This may explain why there are no markings. It is beautifully created, with a leaf as the base and other leafs and a flower decorating the center. The handle is made to look like a vine or branch. It weighs almost 8 ounces (7.8). Since there are no markings, the provenance is unknown. I believe they date back to the 1880s to 1890s. This an interesting piece made special by the stand design, and the silver composition.
