These Salt Cellars were made by Peter and Ann Bateman in 1792. They are the children of Hester Bateman who was at the end of her career as a Silversmith and Peter and Ann had just been certified in 1791. They are from a Virginia Estate where they were used with two 1770 Casters serving as Pepper Shakers which I have just listed. The glass is different in the Cellars and although both are old one is hand blown and may have been an early replacement. Both have the 1792 date mark and the “PBPA” makers mark. Interested buyers may make an offer on all 4 pieces, 2 Casters and 2 Cellars and keep them together.
