Beautiful Set of 12 Sterling Silver Open Salts with Cobalt Blue Glass Liners Sterling Silver Salt Spoons Satin Lined Wood Box. For Your Fancy Sterling Silver Collection. Description: Offered here is a set of 12 antique sterling silver open salts with cobalt blue glass liners. The salts come with 12 sterling silver salt spoons. There are three different designs of spoons, one has an angel or a putto (plural putti) at the end, the second has a flower at the end, while the third has a shell for the spoon’s bowl. All salts are marked “STERLING” while the spoons are marked “STERL SILV” with the flower and shell spoons having the additional word GERMANY. The entire set comes in a satin lined wood box. The salts fit nicely in round depressions with the spoons sitting in a depression between the salts. A beautiful and rather rare set that is complete and very seldom comes by in such a great state. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late1800s. The set was made in Germany. Size: The salts are 1 7/8″ in diameter and 3/4″ high. The spoons range in length from 2″ to 2 1/2″ with the putto spoon being 2″, the shell bowl spoon being 2 1/4″ and the flower spoon being 2 1/2. The wooden box measures 10 1/4″ by 8 1/4″ by 1 3/4. The entire set weighs one pound and 13 ounces. Marks: All salts are marked “STERLING” while the spoons are marked “STERL SILV” with the flower and shell spoons having the additional word GERMANY. There are also the mark EP Co. On the salts, which most likely refers to the maker, but we are uncertain who it would be. Condition: Very good condition with all the salts, except for one, being intact without chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs as best as we can tell. There is one salt where the glass liner is cracked and is the one we show in the seventh and eights photos. Other than that the box has some exterior wear, the interior lining is soiled, and the latch may have been replaced or re-nailed. The spoons are intact and could probably use a good cleaning, but we leave that to the new owner’s discretion. Just a wonderful and rare complete set that very seldom comes by and would look great in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
