Georgian Sterling Silver Salt Cellar. This elegant salt cellar is made from sterling silver. It is of boat form with two looped handles and it stands on an oval pedestal foot. The edges of the cellar, foot and handles are decorated with reeding and, to the front, is an armorial crest depicting a leg in armour and the French motto Toujours Pres which means Always Close. It is hallmarked to the underside of the foot for London 1795 with the makers mark of Peter and Ann Bateman (relatives of Hester Bateman). This dish is in lovely, usable condition. However, there are two things to bring to your attention. To the back of the cellar, there is a small area in the middle which has a light 1cm long line bruise with some pinhead dints above it. Its not highly noticeable. There is a very slight kink to the edge foot which is barely noticeable from above and doesnt cause a wobble. Please be aware that, after 224 years, there will be some tiny surface abrasions caused through use. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN PAGE TO SEE MORE IMAGES Approximate Measurements.
