1871 Neat Pair Gorham Sterling Silver Open Salt Cellars Bug Design. Presented is a charming pair of Gorham sterling silver open salt cellars. These cellars date to 1871. The cellars are done in an interesting design, with a matte finish exterior and a bright finish interior. Each cellar is decorated with two cast and applied insects at two points around the rim. The salts are quite stylish and eye-catching, and would make an interesting addition to any table setting. This pair of salts is in great condition. We think the bugs may have originally had wings, and perhaps some were broken so the previous owner decided to remove them all. Whatever the case, the bugs look uniform now. There are no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The salts are stamped on the underside with the maker’s mark for Gorham as well as sterling, the date letter D for 1871, and the number 550. The salts are about 3 inches across and stand about 1 3/4 inches tall at the highest point. The total weight for the pair is 113 grams or 4.0 regular ounces. Powered by SixBit’s eCommerce Solution.
